Local man Martin Walters has been "mad about eyes" since his first visit to the opticians aged 5!
"My eyesight was found to be fine, but I remember being fascinated with the huge tray of lenses that the Opticians had to choose from, and all the weird and wonderful machines that he used", says Martin. Ever since then, he made it his mission to run a practice of his own, and as it turned out, two!!
Martin recently took over the running of the business from Christopher Coakley, who had owned Coakleys for over 15 years . Martin began working at Coakleys 14 years ago, soon after qualifying, and has been there ever since.
"Mr Coakley still works as a locum Optometrist for 2 days a week at Wisbech, and so has maintained valuable continuity for our patients and is on hand for any business advice that I need", explains Martin.
Having been born in Cambridge and a fenlander all his life, he believes he understands what local people want from their Optician.
"A trip to the Opticians can be fun for some, but very traumatic for others", he explains. "Here at Coakleys we specialise in the human touch, taking the time to listen to each individuals concerns, whether they are worried about the health of their eyes or about looking great in the latest designer frames. Today Coakleys have over 20,000 clients on their books and the business has gone from strength to strength."
